10,000 steps...

At work, an interoffice program was just started called 10,000 steps. It's pretty self explanatory: the goal is to take 10,000 steps a day. Those that wanted to participate bought these nifty little pedometers that you where like a pager (so basically, you look like a total nerd/weirdo). Yes, I wear mine every day, and I was surprised to see that just by doing normal activities, I take about 3,000 steps per day. I truly thought it would be more than that, because my position requires me to walk around the office more than most. So, yesterday, I finally did it! I walked 10,000 steps! Do you think you know what distance you have to walk to reach that many steps? Have you ever tried to walk 10,000 steps?

how many steps=1 mile?

after some 'research' it looks like 10,000 steps is about 4-5 miles. of course that depends on the length of your stride and the accuracy of your pedometer...way to go libbers

I would like to see you where your pedometer. Was it hard to find?

is there a reason you guys say where instead of wear?

let me in on the secret...

i know i take around that...if not more. doesn't taking 10,000 steps decrease on office productivity?

Paul: Doesn't it surprise you that it is that far? That is what the American Health Association (they must think they're important) recommends for a 'healthy lifestyle.' I doubt many people actually do that. I think it's probably next to impossible to do it without trying.

Dad: Where you making fun of me? That's okay, I suppose I deserve it for spelling wear w-h-e-r-e.

Stephen: You would think so wouldn't you...

Isn't "where"-ing that Frandsen phenomenon when you've misplaced something and can't find it?? If so, I'm not surprised Libby was "whereing" her pedometer. Just like Paul "where"s his pager, phone, keys, and name badge at least once a week (he's getting better, huh?).

Stephen... I thought the same thing. Isn't it more productive to have employees stapled to their chairs in front of the computer getting Carpal Tunnel Syndrome?

Libby n Deej: I love the blog.

This is a great company sponsored program. Are the employees buying into it? Do they view it as an administrative effort to promote the long term health of their employees or is it the water-cooler joke? How many actually strap on the “nerdy” device? Way to promote the weirdo mentality for the sake of your health and sanity Libby!

Amy: you're quite witty, I must say. I really think I am getting better at 'where'ing. I don't know if I'll ever be able to leave it completely behind though. I just can't let go of my heritage like that. :)

Mel: People actually seem to be buying into it for the most part. Besides, the 10,000 steps program is a good excuse to get up and walk around to give your mind a break!

I love that your company is promoting healthy practices. That is wonderful.

Are you still wearing it, even after you hit the goal?? Are there any prizes/ways to recognize winners?

I can't wait to hear about the upcoming Frandsen Pittsburgh visit...

still wearing it. haven't hit my goal again yet. it's hard...

i'm excited for the frandsen clan to get here too! i keep dreaming up more things to do. i'm going to have to cut down the itinerary!

i'll bet dad does 10,000 steps a day between the office, the hospital, and all the other things he does. he's on his feet a lot.

paul, i'll bet you come pretty close in the ER. don't you think?

i would think that stevie also puts in 10,000 as a teacher.

PEDOMETERS FOR EVERYONE!!!

I go up and down the stairs a lot, you know.

And I'll bet Abby puts in at least 10,000 steps a day.

Dad is on his feet a lot. That's why he's such a fit padre. I'll bet Melinda takes 10,000 steps a day too (I am envisioning her running up and down the bleachers in Arizona). Maybe it is easier than I thought. I often wondered how many steps I took in an average day at bywoo. I'll bet it's a lot. That's a large campus.

...especially if you count dance classes??

petey said...

stephen's been taking salsa dance lessons with di lately. i'm sure that keeps his count up too, on top of his class patrolling.

alas, i think i don't even come close to that with the amount of hours i spent in a dim-lit basement study cubicle... :(

libby said...

Petey: I'm sure with walking between classes and back and forth to the subway you must get a good amount in. New Yorkers have to be the best steppers ever!

petey said...

libby. if i had classes right now that might count.
my days are spent in a solitary room in the basement. i promise 1.5 blocks to and from the subway don't really count either.

btw: when are you two coming to see the new place?

Petey... it will all be worth it...

Say it with me...

it will all be worth it... it will all be worth it...

Paul and I took a social dance class together...

i'm pretty sure i have no idea what you're talking about. and i'm proud of that, so please don't enlighten men.

libby said...

Petey: I'm impressed. You should be proud of that. When do you take the boards?

petey said...

i take the boards on july sixth. which means i now officially have 22 days and 9 hours til i'm completely done.

ps. are we the only ones on this thread?

libby said...

yup. i think it's time for a new post...

paul said...

New post, new post! There is so much to say!

Or are you guys in hiding? Perhaps your internet is down? A ban on dental student blogging? You couldn't have possibly misplaced the laptop??
